January 9, 2006:
Press Release:
The Randall Family, LLC (MD) has signed a contract with TKS for the
purchase of a shaftless Color Top 4000UDH press. The press, which is
scheduled to be installed in March 2007, replaces the existing Goss
Urbanite press now used to print The Frederick News-Post.
A new building will be constructed to house the new TKS press, which
consists of:
(6) 4/4 Towers
(2) 2:3:3 jaw folders
(9) MEGTEC AR70A Reels
T-NPC press controls
Technotrans spray bar
TKS Quarter folder
21” cutoff
Oxy Dry blanket wash system
Cutoff Control
Stitcher
Register System
The unique features of this press include the reel room level end
mounted folders. This design allows for the two presses to be com-
bined to run 36 pages straight, and 72 pages collect full, spot and
black in 3 sections straight and 6 sections collect. Additionally
the superstructure allows for any combination of webs from either press
line to go to either folder. With this design, the press has the most
flexibility to enable the newspaper to develop new business and provide
unique products, as well as having the capacity to run double produc-
tion of those products.
“We are proud to join the TKS family of customers and we are confident
the unique design of the Color Top 4000UDH will meet all of our produc-
tion needs now and well into the future” says Myron Randall, Editor and
Publisher of The Frederick News-Post.
Greg Harabin, President and CEO of TKS (USA) added - “We are very pleased
that The Frederick News-Post has expressed confidence in TKS by
becoming the first North American newspaper to showcase this 3x2 / 2x2
design press.”
